Gas Fire Buyers
Guide
It's important to get the right gas fire for
your home. Our Buyers Guide will take you through
some factors to consider when making your selection
including type of fuel, controls, fire back panel,
radiant or convector, chimney or flue and sizing
your fire.
Fuel
Either Natural Gas or LPG. Natural Gas is the
most common, alternatively for those who don't
have a natural gas supply you can power your gas
fire using LPG.
Controls
Three basic control systems are available. Manual
control allows you to turn your fire on and off
using a dial often hidden behind the gas fire
ash pan. Slide control gas fires have a control
on the side of the fire so you don't have to bend
down. Remote control fires can be controlled from
the comfort of your armchair via an infra-red
remote control.
Fire Back Panel
Some Gas fires allow you to select different
fire back panels than the standard plain black
one. Some Kinder fires allow you to have a brick
back panel to suit your room and the Kinder Camber
and Firebokse are available with a ribbed back
panel.
Radiant or Convector
Radiant fires emanate heat from the combustion
chamber only and incorporate a glowing back panel
to maximise heat output. Convector fires take
advantage of a heat exchanger attached to the
back of the fire which draws in cold and sends
it into the room as hot air thus maximising heat
output while keeping your fuel bills down.
Chimney or Flue
Your choice is dictated by the type of chimney
you have. Brick Chimneys will accomodate all gas
fires apart from "no chimney" applications.
Pre-Fabricated Flue and Pre-cast Flues will fit
many fires for expert advice, contact
us. Some properties have no chimney or Flue
and require a Balanced Flue or Power Flue. Power
Flues use a fan on the external wall to vent gases
combined with a sophisticated monitor which shuts
the fire off in the event of failure. Balanced
flues vent gases directly outside via a horizontal
pipe.
Sizing Your Fire
To ensure that your gas fire will fit , measure
the size of your fire opening, depth of recess,
chimney cavity and distance to external wall if
fitting a Power Flue or Balanced Flue. If you're
not sure which fires right for you contact
us with your fireplace dimensions.
